Organisers continuing to plan as usual despite Covid uncertainty.
The event that sees thousands of visitors heading to the town could still go ahead as normal after being postponed for the first-time last year.
In response to all the enquiries currently being received we are continuing to plan as usual for Whitby Regatta 2021 and also preparing for every eventuality. This may include having to scale down some events which normally form part of the Regatta weekend.
Developments over forthcoming months will be crucial to whether the event can go forward, especially if current social distancing measures are to be maintained.
The uncertainty lies in the conditions that must be met in each of the Government’s road map stages.
Due to this uncertainty we are all facing the Whitby Regatta Committee will not be making a final decision until closer to the summer.
Any updates will be published on this site and the Whitby Regatta Facebook page.
We thank you all for your continued support and hope to see you this summer.
The Whitby Regatta Committee are looking for volunteers to assist in marshalling, organising and generally assisting in ensuring the success of one of the biggest events in the Town's calendar.
Help is always required to run the Regatta Stall, Pick-a-Pen, Tombola and general planning however, one of the main activities that is left to a few, is the marshalling of the event. This includes administering and monitoring road closures, assisting with pedestrian walkways, erecting crowd barriers, identifying Health and Safety issues and general crowd control.
To qualify in becoming a marshal, the Whitby Regatta organise a one day Conflict Management Training course. The course is presented by a Quality Reviewer for the National Open College Network which monitors standards at conflict and physical intervention security training centres throughout United Kingdom.
Although there is no examination at the end of this one day attendance course, typically of 7 hours duration recognition will be given by the issue of a certificate of competence.
All volunteers involved in the 3 day event give their time free of charge and take pride in being involved in the community spirit generated by one of the area's leading events.
Training courses will be organised for volunteers in the months leading up to the Regatta.
If you would like to assist in any way or would like some more information please write to The Whitby Regatta, P.O. Box 50, Whitby, North Yorkshire, YO21 3YN stating which area you would like to volunteer for (marshalling, Regatta Stall, Pick a Pen, Tombola or general help).
Alternatively you can contact Ivor Greer on 07943 581339.
